Hats off!

09-27-2003: It's pretty rare for us to salute! someone from Hollywood, so sit up and pay attention.

Bruce Willis recently took his band to Iraq to visit with and play for our troops. His band, the Accelerator, played atop flatbed trucks in the desert, with scores of cheering troops surrounding them.

They have played several gigs, and will play several more in neighboring Kuwait.

Now, whether or not you support the US action in Iraq, you have to admit that it's good to see someone support our troops like Willis has. That really makes a difference. And he's about the only bonehead from Hollywood that has supported them publicly.

If you support the US action in Iraq (I do - many others do not), it's interesting to note that Willis has put up his own personal bounty for the soldier that captures Saddam Hussein - one million dollars. You can read all about both the bounty and the band in an article by the BBC.

salute!

09-20-2003: Today, Stinkweasel staff is headed for Miami, Florida, USA.

We'd like to give a great big salute! to Dave Barry, the Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist from the Miami Herald. You see, in a recent column, he decided to mix things up a little.

On August 31st, he published the phone number for the American Teleservices Association, the national not-for-profit "trade association" for telemarketers. In other words, the group of jackasses who call you again and again and again and ignore your plees to put you on their do-not-call list.

Anyhoo, Barry published their number. And thousands of people called them, just to let them know how much we appreciate their intrusions into our daily lives. And can you believe they actually had the gall to whine and complain about it? By the way, their number (toll free!) is 1-877-779-3974. Give them a call - I'm sure they'd be very happy to know that you appreciate the job they do!

A great, big, salute! goes to Dave Barry, for giving them a taste of their own crappy medicine. Check out the column that won him the coveted salute!

09-17-2003: It's been a long time since I've posted a salute!, way too long.

I have a different sort of person to salute today. Her name is Patricia de Jong, from the Netherlands. Ms. de Jong has taken the time to produce a very heart-wrenching presentation about the attacks in the United States on September 11th, 2001.

I've seen a lot of websites and images and essays and such, but her video really effected me.

I'm not going to ruin this with any more blather.

salute!, Ms. de Jong.
