Today's asshat

11-30-2003: Alright, little tiny baby steps.

The Asshat Of The Day column has been upgraded to the new codebase. I'm still fighting with problems with some of the other columns and this code has been done for a while, so I figured I'll roll it out and see what happens.

Please take a moment to click around the archives, and please let us know if you run across any blank pages, errors, etc. I've tested this as extensively as I can, so now I could use your help.

Barring any explosions, we'll resume publishing new Asshats tomorrow or the next day. Rejoice!

11-22-2003: Major progress this weekend - the code to display asshats is done, and I'm well underway on the stuff to show flicks. I've fixed several normalization issues with the database, and I've done a lot of exception handling that will not only make normal reading more foolproof, but will help protect from those that have less than admirable intentions.

We like foolproof. Holy crap, do I need a good solid NeverWinter Nights session.

11-18-2003: Well, would ya believe we're still working on this crap?

Progress is being made - as of 10:29PM tonight, the management code has been finished and pushed to production. This was the biggest part of the job - being able to add, edit, and remove data from the database safely and smoothly. Thank god that is over. Mind you, there will be minor tweaks here and there, but the majority of it is done.

So, on to the part of the code that you'll actually see - the code that actually creates these pages. I don't anticipate that being nearly as time-consuming as this was, so I'm going to start populating the database with actual archive data as I finish up on the dynamic page code. Yay.

Bear with me, all three viewers, we're going to be publishing new crap soon enough.

11-03-2003: Bear with us, folks... The AOTD is going to have a lapse for a few, while we redo a bunch of code.

Basically, maintaining over 650 URL's manually was becoming too much of a pain in the ass, so we're automating a bunch of things.

What will change for you? Not a whole lot - almost all of the changes are behind the scenes. So, be patient, give us a few weeks, and we'll be back in action before you know it.
